6 hair care habits to get big and bouncy hair in monsoon

With the onset of monsoon, most of us experience an increase in hair fall. We typically notice a fall of up to 100 strands every day, which is thought to be normal. However, a person may experience a hair fall of more than 150 strands during this season. This leaves our ponytail wimpy than before. Getting bouncy hair is more challenging during the monsoon because of the increased humidity.

The common issues you experience are dandruff, hair loss, greasy scalp, and frizzy hair. Not to forget, lice breed during the rainy season and infestations are also frequent. Additionally, the deposits close to your hair roots serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, which can make your dandruff problems worse and increase the chances of bacterial and fungal infection of the scalp. This weighs down your mane and your entire look. Sigh!

Health Shots got in touch with Dr B L Jangid, Dermatologist and Hair Transplant Surgeon, SkinQure Clinic, New Delhi, who listed various ways to keep your hair swaying in the monsoon wind.

Here are 6 brilliant hair care tips to get bouncy hair all day:

1. Avoid wetting hair in rainwater

According to Dr Jangid, “Due to automotive emissions, and industrial regions, our area is full of pollution and hazardous chemicals like hydrogen sulphide (H2S). As a result, there is a chance that raindrops will combine with these harmful substances and harm your hair. Rainwater with a high pH can damage the cuticle and result in hair that is rough and dry. Due to the higher humidity during this time of year, lice may also spread swiftly.”

2. Non-sticky antibacterial oil is a good idea

Use oil, since it helps to increase blood flow and nourishes the hair, giving it a healthy look and feel. However, avoid using the common sticky oil. Use an antimicrobial oil like neem oil during the monsoon. But don’t keep it for too long. It’s advisable to apply oil 2-3 hours before a head shower.

3. Wash your hair more frequently

During the monsoon season, wash your hair frequently between sessions. Concentrating on your scalp, shampoo with a mild cleanser. Shampoo is not as necessary for your hair as it is for your scalp. After each shampooing session, it’s crucial to condition your hair. It addresses the widespread issue of frizz and helps to add moisture to your hair.

4. Use a towel to dry your hair

Dry your hair with a towel and let it air dry as much as you can without rubbing it too hard, which leads to friction and breakage. Also, don’t use blow dryers or straighteners as they can strip away the moisture from your hair and damage the cuticle.

5. Maintain a proper diet

“The health of your hair is largely determined by your diet. Maintain a balanced diet that includes enough protein. To add shine and lustre to your hair and encourage its growth, be sure to consume a healthy diet that contains green vegetables, dairy products, eggs, walnuts, nuts, and sprouts. Both a good diet and hair care regimen are crucial. Reduce your coffee consumption and drink 8 to 12 glasses of water each day”, advises Dr Jangid.

6. Deep condition with a hair mask

Use a neem and turmeric mask because both antibacterial and antioxidant properties are abundant in this mask. It will aid in the battle against germs and assist in stopping dandruff, itching, and scalp inflammation. To make this hair mask, crush fresh neem leaves and turmeric root, then combine the mixture to create a homogeneous paste. Apply this mixture to your scalp and gently massage for 20 to 30 minutes. Use a mild shampoo to remove the mask, then apply conditioner.
