Try these DIY face masks for beautiful skin

Do you love wearing a face mask? If you do, you know it that nothing beats the relaxation you get after applying a soothing face mask. It feels like an at-home spa! Since most people do not have time to visit a spa every now and then, the best way to treat yourself to a soothing face treatment is indeed a face mask. And you can make it better with a natural face mask.

There are several alternatives when it comes to homemade face masks that can be overwhelming. But don’t worry, we are narrowing it down with the help of Dermatologist Dr (Major) Gurveen Waraich Garekar.

DIY face masks for your skin

Dr Garekar took to her Instagram recently to share DIY face masks that will help you get glowing and beautiful skin. So, let’s dive right in!

1. Soothing oats face mask for skin

Having sensitive skin is anything, but easy. Make sure you are using products or natural ingredients that aren’t too harsh on the skin. Enter oats for skin! Dr Garekar shares that oatmeal contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it an amazing soothing agent. It also contains saponins (soap-like properties) and works like a cleanser. She recommends mixing oatmeal with water or milk to make it a scrub or mask and applying it on the face for a soothing effect.

2. Papaya for skin

While exfoliation works wonders for the skin and makes it all glow, it can sometimes be harsh and rough! But exfoliation is not limited to physical and chemical peels. Dr Garekar says that there is a third type of exfoliation called Enzymatic exfoliation. “Papaya has this exfoliating enzyme. This enzyme is called Papain and it helps in sloughing off dead skin cells when applied to the skin,” she adds. So, the next time you want to exfoliate your skin, go natural with papaya. Not only is it gentle on the skin but it leaves you with glowing skin.

3. Yoghurt for skin

Another great home remedy for sensitive skin, yoghurt is the perfect ingredient if you are looking for natural ways to get beautiful skin. The dermatologist explains that yoghurt contains lactic acid, which contains exfoliating and skin-lightening properties.

Even studies have shown that yoghurt is good for your skin! A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science found that applying yoghurt on your skin helps adds moisture and brighten the skin. It also offers toning benefits, UV ray protection and elasticity. Research has also proved that it can slow down the signs of ageing – what more do you want?

4. Honey for skin

Honey is one of nature’s most renowned skin treatments! It is good for people with oily and acne-prone skin because it contains antibacterial and antiseptic properties. This natural humectant can help moisturise the skin without making it look greasy. Dr Garekar writes that honey contains anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, exfoliating and hydrating properties. “Raw or Manuka honey is the preferred choice, use it alone or mix it with oats or yoghurt to make a thick mask.”

Be cautious though!

While these are natural ingredients, they also contain chemicals which can be harmful. Avenanthramide is a chemical found in oats, lactic acid is an acid found in yoghurt and papain in papaya, all of which can be harmful. So, be careful of what you are applying to your face.
