They say pleasure is power and masturbation is a very essential part of it. Well, why shouldn’t it be? After all, it is all about being the boss of your own pleasure. As a new change, women are gradually becoming open about it and discussing such matters frequently. Given the upcoming rise of $exual health experts over the years, $exual wellness has gained prominence. However, $exual wellness is quite interlinked with your intimate hygiene which is absolutely important after you fly solo. Experts have often repeated the importance of post-$ex care and hygiene measures. But a very common doubt that occurs in all of our brains is: If you don’t clean up after masturbation, will you be more prone to a vaginal infection? Come let us find out.
Health Shots got in touch with Dr Meenakshi Ahuja, Director, obstetrician and gynaecologist, Fortis La Femme, New Delhi, who shed light on the intimate hygiene measures one must take after masturbating.
Dr Ahuja says, “Women are not prone to any kind of infection from masturbation. This is because the produced discharge is your own body’s secretion and hence it cannot cause any intimate health problems.”
“However, cleaning up once you’re done may eliminate any chances of vaginal infections. It is equally essential to make sure that you have not injured yourself once you are done with it,” Dr Ahuja added.
What can happen if you don’t clean up after masturbation?
If you don’t know it already, masturbation has health benefits!
“A clean up after masturbation is not a mandatory task but It does reduce the possibility of bacteria forming near your private organs. Urinating may remove most of the residual secretions. However, if you clean it off yourself after masturbating, then the chances of developing bacteria in your vagina reduce to zero. Excess bacteria might disturb your vaginal pH level which may cause you a little itching or burning sensation down there,” Dr Ahuja told Health Shots.
“Also, cleansing your organs with water ensures that any kind of lubricant used by you during masturbation is removed or washed away properly,“ she added.
Women mostly indulge in clitoral stimulation or vaginal masturbation. This may involve the use of fingers, vibrators or $ex toys. While it goes without saying that anything that is in close contact with or inserted in your vagina need to be washed and cleaned beforehand, it will also help to clean up once you’ve scored your big O!
Here are certain ways you can maintain your intimate hygiene:
1. You can wash your intimate area with plain water and dry it with a tissue after the act. “A non-alcoholic wet wipe is the finest method to clean up after masturbating. You may also use a moist hand towel, but make sure it’s wet first. Using the towel, wipe your hands and the region around your genitals,” advises Dr Ahuja.
2. If you’re using a $ex toy, you need to clean that too. You can use a mild non-fragrant soap and water to do the job.
3. You may take a shower or bath after masturbating in order to clean up any spills and mess.
4. Throw away tissues and make sure to dispose of them properly.
Ladies, masturbation is probably the easiest way to release your stress and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a healthy activity that promotes better sleep, but it can be messy sometimes. A nice clean up wouldn’t be a bad idea once you’re done enjoying your ‘she time’. Wink!
