People hear “argan oil” and they go, “I have heard something about it,” “It is good for your diet or hair or something.” Well, we are here to replace these doubts and confusions with solid facts about the benefits of argan oil.
Argan oil, or more famously known as Moroccan oil, is an oil that is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree. This tree is largely found in Morocco and hence the name. In Morocco, people use this oil for cooking and even as a dip but now research has shown that argan oil has many benefits when it comes to fulfilling cosmetic purposes too.
Argan oil has many varied health benefits but these days it is majorly being used for hair by people all over the world. Everyone is caching in on the trend as all major skincare products market argan oil as their highlighted ingredient. Health Shots reached out to Dr. Chiranjiv Chhabra, a dermatologist who told us about it!
Know the benefits of argan oil for hair:
1. Rich in nutrients that are good for hair
“While it has been marketed well to tame frizzy hair and maintain the luscious locks, each blend of argan oil works differently on your hair as well as your skin,” says Dr. Chhabra. Argan oil is rich in vitamins like Vitamin D, Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, minerals and antioxidants. Argan oil is a great hydrator and is beneficial in moisturizing your hair.
2. Good for damaged hair
Continuous use of argan oil in general, protects the hair from breakage, elasticity and adds shine to your locks giving you a healthy and voluminous mane. Dr. Chhabra explains, “A good-quality argan oil has a lightweight and non-greasy texture. It thus penetrates the roots, nourishes the hair cuticles, and makes the hair shinier. Since it goes deep into the hair cells, this oil provides deep conditioning for frizzy hair and split ends too.”
3. Protects your hair from heat and chemicals
If you style your hair quite often or are struggling with color damaged hair, massaging your hair with a blend of argan oil and cold pressed coconut oil helps protect the hair from direct heat of a blow dryer, curling iron and so on. The best way to use argan oil is to use it as a conditioner to be applied on your strands and ends of the hair.
Argan oil is also good for our skin health. “For skin a cold-pressed argan oil can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, help reduce hyperpigmentation, brown spots due to change in hormones and photo-damage,” says Dr. Chhabra.
