What is rose water?
Rose water is flavoured water that is made by steeping rose petals in water, says Dr Kochhar. Here is how to prepare rose water
• Take rose petals, clean them and put them to a pot or pan.
• Add distilled water to cover the rose petals.
• Place the pot or pan on the stove, but make sure it is on low heat.
• Cover the container with a lid and let it simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. That’s when the rose petals lose their colour.
• Leave the home-made rose water and let it to cool down before using it.
Rose water to get rid of dry lips
Rose water is great for lips as the vitamin E in the rose petals can help to nourish your lips and soothe dry lips, says the expert.
Tips to use rose water for lips
The simplest way is to take some rose water on a cotton pad and dab it over your lips.
Rose water lip scrub
You can also exfoliate your lips with a DIY rose water lip scrub. All you have to do is mix rose water with sugar. Then gently massage the home-made scrub onto your lips in circular motions for about a minute. After that, you can rinse off your lips with lukewarm water.
Rose water lip mask
To make rose water lip mask, you need to mix a teaspoon of rose water with another teaspoon of honey and just few drops of almond oil. Apply it to your lips and leave it on for 15 minutes then rinse it off with water.
Dr Kochhar says you can also use rose petals with milk. The lactic acid in the milk will take the dead cells away while the rose petals will help to nourish your lips. Rose water also removes the layers of dead skin cells and debris from the lips, so this makes the lips look lighter. That’s why some believe that rose water is a good home remedy for dark lips.
Rose water also benefits skin
You can use rose water as often as you would like to. It calms any irritation, and keeps your lips hydrated. Not only for your lips, but it is really good for your skin as well. The expert says that rose water helps to maintain the pH levels of your skin, controls excess sebum production and protects skin against harmful environmental aggressors.
So, regularly use rose water for soft lips and glowing skin.
