Treatments to reduce wrinkles
Anti ageing treatments can not only bring back the glow and youthfulness but can also help reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Dr Kapoor says, “We accept ageing as a natural process but wrinkles and fine lines that come with it becomes difficult to accept. For some people, wrinkles start to appear as early as in their mid-twenties and they start being conscious about their looks. This happens because of unprotected sun exposure, pollution, and unhealthy lifestyle which starts with early chronological ageing, normal contraction of facial muscles and not using correct moisturising products for the skin.”
She adds, “The good news is that there are some excellent wrinkle-reducing treatments available that can help minimize their appearance.”
Here are 6 best treatments that you can try to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines:
1. Injectables
This treatment includes Botox. By numbing the nerves and blocking signals to the muscles whose contraction and relaxation cause wrinkles, Botox treatment acts to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and calms the skin. Botox works for 4-6 months.
2. Soft tissue or dermal fillers
Fillers are used on static wrinkles. They are injectables that ‘fill’ the skin. When injected, they give the skin more volume, diminish wrinkles, and give it a plumper appearance. They can last anywhere between six months and a year, depending on the fillers used.
3. Chemical peels
Chemical acid formulations known as peels are applied to the face in the form of a mask. They burn out the superficial dead skin layer and the new skin that appears is smooth and free of wrinkles and lines. Sun damage, acne scars, and flaws in the skin’s texture can also be eliminated with this procedure. The effects of chemical peel last for several months.
4. Laser skin resurfacing
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing is the method for skin rejuvenation. Laser energy targets the deep layers of the skin and exfoliates the top layer of the skin to promote collagen production. Collagen aids in skin smoothness and hydration, which lessens the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Moreover, it improves skin texture and eliminates hyperpigmentation. Laser skin resurfacing has long-term results in keeping wrinkles at bay
5. Microdermabrasion
With the help of a physical exfoliation tool, the top layer of skin is removed during microdermabrasion wrinkle treatment. The new skin is free of wrinkles and lines and scars. For long-lasting results, this therapy must be repeated every few months.
6. Facelift
This surgical procedure for skin rejuvenation is performed under either local or general anaesthesia. The skin and tissues are nipped and tightened to give a more sculpted look to the face. Although a facelift has very long-lasting effects but it is not permanent. You might have to undergo another facelift a few years later as the process of ageing takes over.
Wrinkle removal treatments can be also combined for a more contoured result. For example, botox and fillers can be used after a facelift to treat new superficial wrinkles. The results vary depending on your skin’s structural integrity and the severity of your wrinkles. It is best to talk to your doctor to know which treatment is best for you!
