Frankly, I’m not someone extremely invested in my hair care routine. But that doesn’t mean I can live with damaged hair or hair fall problems. It’s just that I love adopting some simple yet effective methods. A month ago, a friend of mine suggested using betel leaves (paan ka patta) for my hair. I was unsure about it at first but then I thought of giving it a try! After all, we are well aware of the benefits of paan leaves, so I thought why not try and see. You may not believe it, but I actually experienced a change in my hair.

These heart-shaped leaves are utilized in pujas for both spiritual and health purposes since they symbolize prosperity and freshness. According to Ayurveda, it has a wealth of therapeutic and other necessary vitamins and minerals, including potassium, nicotinic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B2, and vitamin B1.

Are betel leaves good for hair growth?

Ahuja says, “Betel leaves can be used to promote hair growth effectively. It has a number of essential nutrients for healthy hair and antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that help make your hair thick and long while conditioning it. Additionally, betel leaves aid in the treatment of itching, dandruff, and split ends because it prevents the formation of fungi and guards against allergic reactions.” What’s a game changer nutrient that paan has is vitamin C.

Vitamin C is required for the production of the protein known more commonly as collagen, it has benefits for your hair. Vitamin C promotes hair health, reduces hair loss and boosts hair growth. On the other hand, a lack of vitamin C can lead to split ends and dry hair.

How to use betel leaves for hair?

Well, there is a twist in my way of making a betel leaf homemade hair mask. Although betel leaves are enough to benefit the hair, I also added one tablespoon of ghee to this hair mask to condition my hair and reduce frizziness.

Ghee, which is rich in vitamin A and fatty acids, can:

* Deeply hydrate the hair and scalp
* Soothe scalp irritation
* Enhance the lustre of your hair
* Prevent split ends

Here’s how you can make this hair mask with betel leaves and ghee

Ingredients:

5-10 betel leaves (you can add more according to your hair length)
2-3 tablespoon of ghee
A tablespoon of honey
Water

Here’s how you can prepare and apply the betel leaves and ghee hair mask

Step 1: Add betel or paan leaves to a grinder. Make a paste by adding water.
Step 2: Now, add ghee and honey to the paste after transferring it to a bowl.
Step 3: After that, stir well until you’ve a thick paste.
Step 4: Apply the mixture to your scalp and on the length of your hair with your fingers or a hair colour brush.
Step 5: Massage for 4-5 minutes to make sure the mixture gets deep into your roots
Step 6: Now, leave it for half an hour.
Step 7: Once a half hour has passed, wash your hair with lukewarm water and with mild shampoo and conditioner.

Here’s what I experienced after using this hair mask:

My hair appears lustrous and frizz-free every time I use this paan leaves and ghee hair mask. I’ve used it at least two to three times a week. And guess what? The result is not temporary. My hair has shown a noticeable improvement.

First of all, my hair ends are no longer dry, and my tangles have lessened (bye, frizz). My hair appears much healthier and better-nourished now. And I can see them growing as well. To see the difference, you need to give it a try. Trust me, you’ll give up on all those pricey hair care products!
